About AAS

Uniting Africa/Africans one event at a time.

~~~~~~~~~~OUR MISSION~~~~~~~~~~
The Association of African Students (AAS) is a Student Group formed at Portland State University (PSU) in the mid-seventies by African Students. Since its formation, AAS has worked to bring Africans living in the Diaspora together with the larger PSU community. AAS has done this by hosting African Cultural Night as an annual event. In addition AAS regularly receives dignitaries, hosts lectures, showcases films and documentaries, as well as other artistic expressions to promote its mission.
~~~~~~~~~~WHO WE ARE~~~~~~~~~~

We are the Portland community for the African Diaspora student from Africa, connected to Africa or interested in matters concerning Africa. Anyone who is intrigued by lively cultural show, music and African cuisine will find welcoming home at AAS. AAS is composed of nearly 100 active members and caters to the Portland African community of over 250 students. On Fridays we hold AAS general meetings in which we discuss topics culture, history, politics and issues that effect Africans locally and globally.

~~~~~~~~~~WHAT WE DO~~~~~~~~~~
In addition to our bi-weekly general meetings, AAS holds events which are well-attended by the general Portland community. These include the African Cultural Night, WORLD AIDS DAY, AfriCafe, RED SPOT SERIES and special events like the Historical events. AAS has always sought to be active in Africa
